Hurricane Disaster Recovery Services in Puerto Rico
The devastating impacts of Hurricanes Maria and Irma have wreaked havoc on Puerto Rico's communities, businesses, infrastructure, real estate and power grid. KERAMIDA's Land Division Vice President, Steve Cobb and Project Coordinator, John Young visited Puerto Rico to assess damage to several Simon Mall properties in and around San Juan. KERAMIDA is working with Simon to get common areas in the mall open as quickly as possible as there are currently limited retail spaces open for residents to get food and clothing.
In mid October, Mr. Cobb and Mr. Young spent over a week in Puerto Rico traveling to several retail sites and coordinating contractors for assessment and sampling for mold, asbestos containing materials (ACM), and lead based paint. They also completed moisture mapping of retail spaces within the mall to ensure health and safety once the mall opens. As the work continues, KERAMIDA will also be defining a scope of work for the demolition contractor to remove water damaged materials in the Plaza Carolina Mall.
