KERAMIDA is Lead Envision Firm for Indianapolis Airport Runway Rehabilitation Project

KERAMIDA is proud to have served as the Lead Envision Firm for the Indianapolis International Airport’s (IND) Runway 5L-23R and Taxiway B Rehabilitation Project, which earned the prestigious Envision Verified award for sustainability.

This recognition highlights the project’s exceptional achievements across multiple sustainability categories under the Envision framework developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).

As part of the $15.5M rehabilitation effort, more than 99% of construction and demolition waste was recycled or reused—well above the project-specific goal of 95%. Recycled concrete alone accounted for over 99.2% of the materials repurposed, significantly reducing emissions from haul trucks by eliminating the need to transport waste and bring in new subbase materials.

In addition to its strong focus on waste reduction, the project implemented innovative measures to conserve water, protect surface and groundwater quality, and assess climate change risks, ensuring long-term resiliency for the critical infrastructure. Collaborative planning with the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) and project partners allowed for seamless systems integration, operational efficiency, and resource conservation.

As the IAA’s third Envision-verified project, it demonstrates their unwavering commitment to sustainability, resilience, and operational excellence. KERAMIDA is honored to have played a key role in this award-winning project, advancing sustainable infrastructure through innovative solutions and a collaborative approach.
