Decommissioning and Demolition Services for Rolls-Royce Corporation

KERAMIDA has been contracted to provide a variety of services related to the decommissioning and demolition of portions of the Rolls-Royce complex located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA developed a Pre-Demolition Environmental Work Plan, and our work has included:

  • Inspection of non-structural items 

  • Identification and tagging regulated materials for removal prior to demolition, universal waste

  • Confirmation that items are sufficiently free of oils to allow transportation to recycler or landfill

  • Identification and tagging items that cannot be sufficiently inspected or that contained excessive oils
    and require additional management before removal, such as low level radioactive waste, exit lighting, smoke detectors

  • Identification, tagging and sampling mercury contaminated waste, laboratory drain traps, laboratory benches 

  • Conducted asbestos inspection and developed asbestos abatement plan

  • Identification of non-liquid PCBs materials such as caulks, paints, glazing coating, and sealants and conducted sampling and analysis  

  • Addressed the regulatory status of the scrap metal as “obsolete scrap metal” per EPA’s guidelines to be managed as a solid waste and exempt from hazardous waste regulations when recycled  

  • Reviewed historic and current operations information; identified areas considered Hazardous Waste Management Units (HWMUs) required to be closed under 40 CFR 262.17(a)(8); developed HWMU closure performance specifications in accordance with state & federal regulations 

  • Confirmation of structural materials to remain in-place after demolition through sampling & analysis; determined if extra cleaning was required

KERAMIDA also performed the following tasks:

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessment

  • Post-Demolition Assessment (including sampling and analysis)

  • Perimeter air monitoring during work activities

  • Asbestos abatement oversight final clearance, and final reporting

  • Hazardous materials abatement oversight, final clearance, final reporting
