Founded more than 100 years ago, Harrison Steel Castings (Harrison) is a leader in the production of highly engineered carbon and low/medium alloy steel castings. Harrison’s U.S. physical plant encompasses 650,568 square feet and is capable of producing castings ranging from 350 to 12,500 pounds net casting weight.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA provided Harrison with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Energy Control procedure development. Harrison’s previous LOTO inventory contained approximately 270 machines comprising a total of 634 potential hazardous energy sources. It was believed that equipment had been both removed and added since that inventory had been compiled.

Site Visit:

KERAMIDA’s professionals conducted a site visit over an estimated two-day period to inventory all equipment at the facility and make an initial determination of the potential energy sources for each piece of equipment not accounted for in the most recent inventory. These units were located on a facility site diagram, and given a discrete identifier. Harrison provided a site plan and an employee familiar with facility equipment accompanied each KERAMIDA staff person to assist in the identification of equipment and orientation of the facility.

Energy Control Procedure Development:

Our professionals produced draft procedures in our template format developed by KERAMIDA. The procedures were then submitted for review and approval by Harrison staff. The final drafts were completed by KERAMIDA within one week of approval by Harrison.

KERAMIDA also provided Harrison with the optional services of producing laminated procedures and energy isolation identification tags, along with time on-Site to place the procedures and identification tags on the appropriate equipment.
