Overview:

Steel Dynamics, Inc. is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metal recyclers in the United States, with facilities located throughout the United States and in Mexico. Beginning in July 2018, KERAMIDA assisted Steel Dynamics with its goal of publishing its inaugural Sustainability report within a compressed timeframe.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA began by providing GRI, CDP, and SASB training to Steel Dynamics’ staff.

KERAMIDA then completed the following tasks:

• Evaluated Steel Dynamics’ sustainability context, impacts, material aspects, key stakeholders, and existing communications

• Gathered and evaluated recent sustainability communications of Steel Dynamics’ peers

• Benchmarked Steel Dynamics against the sustainability communications of key competitors

KERAMIDA made strategic recommendations on reporting frameworks to adopt (including GRI, CDP, SASB, etc.), content to feature, and established a timeline for report development. KERAMIDA’s Sustainability professionals worked alongside Steel Dynamics’ Communications consultant on strategic themes and report layout.

KERAMIDA audited the final version of Steel Dynamics’ Sustainability report for compliance with the GRI Standards’ requirements. KERAMIDA advised Steel Dynamics on the use of GRI’s “in accordance” options and GRI’s “referencing” option.
