Naperville 203 School District Carbon Action Plan

KERAMIDA partnered with the Naperville 203 School District to develop a comprehensive Carbon Action Plan (CAP) as part of the District’s commitment to fulfilling Strategic Focus 3.1 of the Naperville 203 Strategic Blueprint. The primary goal of the CAP was to reduce the District’s carbon footprint and minimize its contributions to climate change. The CAP was developed in two phases: the first focused on conducting a thorough GHG inventory, while the second centered on identifying and refining actionable reduction measures.
GHG Inventory:
KERAMIDA conducted a Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas inventory for the 2018, 2022, and 2023 school years to get a baseline for the district’s emission reduction potential. Using a data-driven and transparent approach, we worked closely with the District to establish baseline emissions data, ensuring both accuracy and accountability throughout the process. KERAMIDA developed an interactive PowerBI dashboard to make the emissions data publicly accessible, enabling the community to track progress in real time.
Carbon Action Plan:
KERAMIDA facilitated the formation of Staff and Student Advisory Groups, engaging key stakeholders to assess the feasibility of proposed reduction measures, set realistic and measurable targets, and refine the actions. The CAP development process was iterative, with reduction measures being continuously adjusted based on feedback from the advisory groups and community input to ensure each action was both feasible and effective. Advisory Group members also played a critical role in identifying funding sources and assigning responsibilities for implementation, ensuring that the actions were not only achievable but also well-supported. Additionally, KERAMIDA led community engagement efforts to ensure the final CAP reflected the needs and priorities of all stakeholders. Through this collaborative, transparent, and results-driven process, KERAMIDA helped the District establish a clear roadmap for achieving its sustainability goals and advancing long-term climate action.
