Scope 1, 2, and 3 Gap Analysis, GHG Inventory, and Decarbonization Plan for Blackhawk Network

Project Details:

Blackhawk Network (BHN) is a financial technology company that provides companies solutions on gift card sales, online payments, digital solutions, and digital rewards.

KERAMIDA conducted a Scope 1, 2, and 3 gap analysis of BHN’s existing Scope 1, 2, and 3 data, identifying areas of improvement in the GHG accounting principles of relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy, according to the GHG Protocol standards. KERAMIDA supported BHN in filling data collection gaps within the project timeline and then calculated BHN’s Scope 1 and 2 inventory and inaugural Scope 3 GHG inventory. KERAMIDA developed a GHG inventory improvement plan for BHN to improve data quality in future years and also developed a PowerBi data analytics dashboard for BHN to utilize.

Decarbonization Plan

The Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory developed by KERAMIDA served as the baseline for BHN’s Decarbonization Plan. To develop BHN’s Decarbonization Plan, KERAMIDA engaged closely with BHN’s stakeholders, including department leads and subject matter experts, to gather a robust understanding of BHN operations and incorporate feedback on decarbonization strategies. The result was a Decarbonization Plan comprehensive of BHN’s global operations with GHG emission and cost impact analysis for each recommended strategy presented to the BHN leadership team. As part of the Decarbonization Plan, KERAMIDA assessed the financial feasibility of implementing various supply chain-related strategies. Financial evaluation and feasibility are critical to executives in approving any proposed initiative. Strategies were categorized according to various KPIs, such as CAPEX per GHG reduction and CAPEX + OPEX per GHG reduction, and ranked not only according to these KPIs but also the feasibility of implementation and impact of GHG reductions.
