Scope 3 Tool Development for Las Vegas Sands Corp.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA collaborated with Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS), one of the world's largest hospitality organizations, to enhance LVS’ data collection processes so that their Scope 3 inventory more accurately reflected their operations.

KERAMIDA began by identifying data gaps and inaccurate assumptions in LVS’ Scope 3 inventory. KERAMIDA found gaps across multiple categories and identified calculation methodologies that could be improved.

For instance, LVS used a spend-based methodology to calculate emissions from purchased food. While this method is acceptable per the GHG protocol, it was not representative because the cost of the food products that LVS was purchasing did not align accurately with the associated emissions. For example, LVS sourced most of the seafood from sustainable fisheries, which are typically higher in price but have lower associated emissions. Through SME education and workshops, KERAMIDA communicated the importance of improving this data element. KERAMIDA then assisted in developing a custom emission factor to accurately reflect the lower environmental footprint of the fish they were purchasing.
