Sustainability Assessment for Power Plant Supply Chain Company

KERAMIDA completed a Level I Sustainability Assessment for a confidential Client that provides power plant support services at approximately 50 locations in over 20 states.

What the Client is already doing sustainably that it can communicate:

KERAMIDA highlighted for the Client elements of their existing communications that demonstrate their commitment to the beneficial use of CCPs, the health and safety of its employees, and to the well-being of the communities in which it operates.

Why the Client can expect to benefit from communicating its sustainability:

To support the advocacy needed to move forward with a plan to communicate its sustainability, KERAMIDA outlined the many internal and external benefits the Client can expect from the effort.

Where the Client exists in the sustainability context of its stakeholders, impacts and influence:

Sustainability context refers to the combination of circumstances that determines what the norms, standards or thresholds for sustainability performance are, or need to be, in place when reporting on an organization’s sustainability. KERAMIDA helped the Client determine who their stakeholders are, what its impacts are, and what degree of influence it has on impacts - all to help the Client understand where they stand in relation to their Peers, where they connect with Customer needs, and where to start when measuring, managing and reporting performance.

How the Client can most effectively communicate its sustainability using the prevailing reporting frameworks:

Sustainability’s breadth (economic, social, and environmental aspects), and depth (multimedia impacts and trade-offs, sector-specific, and cross-sector implications, and the temporal nature of resource, governance, and consumer interactions) gives it a complexity that warrants disclosure using a standardized framework. Frameworks provide structure for a common set of potentially relevant variables for data collection, analysis of findings, goal setting, and comparison among other complex systems. KERAMIDA compared four prevailing sustainability reporting frameworks in terms of how applicable they are for the Client’s communications goals and level of existing (and needed) resources.

Who are the Client’s key stakeholders among its Customers and Peers and how are they communicating sustainability:

KERAMIDA determined the most popular reporting frameworks among the Client’s Customers (Electric Utilities) and Peers (engineering, construction, technical, and management services firms involved in CCP management) include the GRI framework, and CDP’s climate change and water disclosures. The 10-Ks of its Customers and two Peers published also include references to SASB’s standards.

Recommendations for next steps:

Based on the findings of its Level I Sustainability Assessment, KERAMIDA presented over a dozen recommendations for the Client to consider as it plans and implements its Sustainability Communication strategy.
