KERAMIDA Partners with Western Kentucky University for NiSource Wetlands Field Day

KERAMIDA partnered with Western Kentucky University (WKU) to host a wetlands field day for NiSource's Natural Resources Permitting team. The event took place at McConnell Springs in Lexington, KY, where the team enjoyed a day learning about geology, wetlands, and groundwater with Dr. Jason Polk! Dr. Polk is a Professor of WKU Earth, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences and the Director of the Center for Human GeoEnvironmental Studies (CHNGES). He led the session providing valuable insights into the importance of understanding human and societal impacts on the environment. The team explored various environmental issues pertaining to wetlands, constructed stormwater features, and Kentucky's unique karst geology.

Did you Know? Karst landscapes are formed by the dissolving of bedrock, resulting in distinctive features such as sinkholes, sinking streams, caves, and springs.

This hands-on experience emphasized the significance of proactive environmental stewardship and the crucial role that understanding geological and environmental interactions plays in effective environmental permitting. KERAMIDA is proud to support educational initiatives that enhance environmental awareness and promote these sustainable practices.
