Our oil & gas consultants provide GHG reporting compliance support, GHG auditing and assurance, and expert guidance on emissions reduction and sustainability strategies for the oil and gas industry.
Oil & Gas Industry Mandatory GHG Reporting
EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) Compliance
Oil & gas facilities emitting 25,000 metric tons of CO2e or more per year are required to be compliant with the EPA Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP). In May 2024, the EPA finalized a major overhaul of the Subpart W regulations and calculation methodologies. These changes are fully applicable starting in 2025. KERAMIDA can provide an impact assessment of the finalized GHGRP updates for your company.
The GHGRP covers emissions from different aspects of the oil and gas industry through several of its subparts. See EPA’s GHGRP and the Oil and Gas Industry to find out how the GHGRP addresses emissions from different phases of oil and gas extraction, production, transport, and use.
Our GHGRP Compliance Consulting Services
Preparing GHG inventories in compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 98 Subpart W annual reporting requirements
Support throughout the e-GGRT submittal process as an Agent, Alternate Designated Agent (ADR), or Designated Representative (DR)
Any level of support - from troubleshooting the upload process to submitting as a DR
Compliance support with 40 CFR Part 98 Subpart A requirement for a written GHG Monitoring Plan
Prepare plans, review existing plans, and update them to reflect inventory and regulatory changes
GHG Compliance Auditing and Assurance
Auditing of emission management database against reporting methodology
Providing quarterly or monthly emission calculations to closely track progress with internal reduction goals and communicate progress to stakeholders
Waste Emission Charge (WEC)
Beginning in reporting year 2024, companies subject to GHGRP reporting may be required to pay a WEC based on their GHGRP methane emissions. KERAMIDA can provide the following assistance:
Assess how the updates to the GHGRP will impact your WEC liability
Help identify reduction opportunities and strategies
Project emissions and strategize netting where common ownership allows combine WEC fee obligations across segments
Oil & Gas GHG Regulatory Consulting
The oil and gas industry faces numerous regulatory updates targeting methane emissions. Our professionals have assisted several oil and gas companies in regulatory review and preparing impact analysis.
Our GHG Regulatory Update Impact Support:
Providing a regulatory impact analysis specific to company operations to better prepare for implementation as well as model emissions. The impact analysis can include current and regulations, such as:
40 CFR Part 60 NSPS OOOOb/OOOOc
Updates to the EPA GHGRP
Inflation Reduction Act Methane Waste Emissions Charge (Calculate intensity to determine the applicability of the fee and estimate the cost based on regulations that will apply starting in reporting year 2024)
Preparing comments on behalf of clients seeking assistance in responding to the EPA’s request for comments on pending regulations
Emissions Reduction for Oil & Gas Companies
Voluntary Reduction Programs
KERAMIDA’s professionals have experience assisting oil and gas companies wanting to go beyond basic regulatory compliance and voluntarily reduce, sequester, and offset emissions. We excel at helping companies who are looking to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions with a special interest in reducing their methane intensity.
Our Oil & Gas Sustainability Support Services:
Pre-verification planning and certification for the ISO 14001 suite of standards
Verifying GHG Inventories according to ISN 14064
Reporting & implementation support with sustainability frameworks: CDP, SBTi, and GRI
Assisting in participation in methane-targeted reduction initiatives such as OGMP 2.0, ONE Future, EPA Methane Star and NGSI
KERAMIDA provides sustainability program implementation support at every stage, including:
Scoping study to identify which emission reduction framework or program is the best fit with stakeholders and internal performance targets
Oil & Gas Sustainability and Climate Projects:
KERAMIDA used the LFGcost-Web Model, created by the U.S. EPA Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP), to model landfill methane gas generation and payback of multiple methane use options, including boiler retrofit, standard reciprocating engine generator (RICE), microturbine generator, and small RICE.
KERAMIDA has been advising Trinity Renewables Technology on the applicability of the HyperPhilic Process to municipal waste conversion to energy; on the overall role of this technology to a circular economy and to GHG emissions reduction strategies; on applicable municipal waste generation rates; and, on the permitting needs of the HyperPhilic Process Waste Conversion Plant.
In 2020, KERAMIDA calculated Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions for a nation-wide midstream energy infrastructure and logistics services provider. As part of the analysis, KERAMIDA accounted for all of the Client’s transloading stations and terminals, various auxiliary equipment, as well as their vast mobile fleet including land, marine, and rail units. The purpose of this project was to provide emissions data to the Client for sustainability reporting.
VGrid Energy Systems (VGrid) is a mobile, scalable gasifier that converts waste biomass to biochar and electricity. KERAMIDA conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of VGrid’s biochar gasifier. This technology converts waste biomass (i.e., pistachio shells) to biochar (a beneficial product) and electricity.
