Client Alert: Canada Introduces New Sustainability and Climate Reporting Standards

Canada’s CSSB Unveils IFRS-Based Sustainability and Climate Reporting Standards

The Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) has released the finalized Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDSs), aligning with the global IFRS Foundation’s International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards while incorporating adjustments for the Canadian context. Key updates include extended timelines for reporting on Scope 3 GHG emissions, sustainability matters beyond climate, and quantitative scenario analysis.

These standards mark a major milestone in Canada’s move toward mandatory sustainability and climate-related reporting, supporting high-quality, consistent disclosures for informed decision-making. Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) continue to work on establishing rules for climate-related disclosures, taking into account the standards established by CSSB.
