Supreme Court Greenlights EPA’s Authority to Enforce GHG Reductions for Power Plants

On November 5, 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision leaving in place a rule issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in May 2024, which requires reductions of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by power plants. This decision is the result of an appeal to the rule by a group of states and industries who sought to put the rule on hold during their ongoing challenge in a federal appeals court.
