Featured Projects:
KERAMIDA has been advising Trinity Renewables Technology on the applicability of the HyperPhilic Process to municipal waste conversion to energy; on the overall role of this technology to a circular economy and to GHG emissions reduction strategies; on applicable municipal waste generation rates; and, on the permitting needs of the HyperPhilic Process Waste Conversion Plant.
KERAMIDA was retained by Algaewheel to assist in gaining regulatory approval for Algaewheel’s patented process of treating wastewater with algae for accomplishing two important goals: Treat wastewater with significantly less energy requirements than current technologies, offering significant cost reduction and CO2 credit opportunities; and generate biofuels from the algae generated.
KERAMIDA performed a study of energy use in foundries and development of best practices for energy use reduction and GHG reduction by manufacturing processes for the U.S. Department of Energy. The objective of this pioneering work was to conduct an energy and facility analysis of the metal casting industry to determine the theoretical minimum, best practice, and actual energy usage for different metals and processes used in the metal casting industry.
KERAMIDA performed a study in 2005 for Indirect CO2 Emissions for a major European aluminum producer and developed a winning GHG emissions reduction strategy to successfully address the anticipated impact from the European Union’s CO2 regulations – Phase I (EU Emissions Trading Scheme Directive 2003/87/EC and resultant National Allocation Plans).
KERAMIDA used the LFGcost-Web Model, created by the U.S. EPA Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP), to model landfill methane gas generation and payback of multiple methane use options, including boiler retrofit, standard reciprocating engine generator (RICE), microturbine generator, and small RICE.
VGrid Energy Systems (VGrid) is a mobile, scalable gasifier that converts waste biomass to biochar and electricity. KERAMIDA conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of VGrid’s biochar gasifier. This technology converts waste biomass (i.e., pistachio shells) to biochar (a beneficial product) and electricity.
In 2020, KERAMIDA calculated Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions for a nation-wide midstream energy infrastructure and logistics services provider. As part of the analysis, KERAMIDA accounted for all of the Client’s transloading stations and terminals, various auxiliary equipment, as well as their vast mobile fleet including land, marine, and rail units. The purpose of this project was to provide emissions data to the Client for sustainability reporting.
KERAMIDA completed a Level I Sustainability Assessment for a confidential Client that provides power plant support services at approximately 50 locations in over 20 states. Our experts provided recommendations to serve as a roadmap for strategically communicating the Client’s sustainability journey.
KERAMIDA conducted a Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions inventory for a company that designs and builds stainless steel propellers for distribution around the globe for a growing marine market. We evaluated the operations at two of the Client’s sites to develop a list of emissions mitigation strategies based on the Client’s strategic vision and priorities.
KERAMIDA performed an energy use audit of all operations related to intake, treatment, and distribution of drinking water for the Indianapolis drinking water system. The audit identified opportunities to reduce electrical energy consumption and GHG, reduce operating costs, and improve the carbon footprint of the supply of drinking water to the residents and businesses of the City of Indianapolis.
